PS from a photographer’s point of view, my favorites are the Jedi Spirit & R2 with the looming vader behind them, the sad-looking down-and-out Watto, and Jango Fett doing a sort of dance-step pose with the framed picture behind. Nice jobs, considering!
(PPS I had to look up Watto’s name; my geekness only goes so far.)
I’ve been in a Star Wars geek-lust lately so I’ve been reading an Expanded Universe novel (Allegiance by Timothy Zahn which is not so bad, re-watching all six movies, and even went out and bought a cheap used copy of Star Wars Battlefront for Xbox.
Well anyway, I think my biggest complaint about The Phantom Menace is that Anakin is a slave, shouldn’t that be portrayed as an utterly horrible experience. Sure he works for Watto, but ultimately it’s a carefree life for Anakin; loving mother in a rather large house, cranky owner who ultimately cares about you, lots of friends, yelling “Yippee” a lot. I think that Lucas should have written the conditions a lot worse, beatings and stuff. That way you really believe that Anakin wants to get off Tattooine, he would really have a great love and relief for the Jedi and Padme because they got him out of here, and there’d be a bigger guilt over him for leaving his mother behind in that situation.
Would that be too dark for essentially a children’s movie?
Todd Alcott is a screenwriter living in Los Angeles with his wife and his kids and his cats and his dogs. He has worked on many feature films and has sometimes been credited for thus. You may have seen one.
Man… is that the Arnold-Schwarzenegger-as-Han-Solo toy or what?

Yeah, I seem to have caught Watto in a moment of quiet introspection.
Fun. I like the Vader head towering R2 and Obi Wan. I think that’s Obi Wan. It’s too early for me to figure that one out. 🙂
Are you sure that’s not your collection? You look like you had some fun. 😉
Sam sets them up, I just take the pictures.

The list of things wrong with The Phantom Menace is too long to be recounted here, on a sunny Mother’s Day in southern California.
Poor Watto. He has the only thing he ever really loved stolen away by a Jedi.
I also really like the ghostly Obi Wan in the shadow of the giant Vaderhead.
You mean the hyperdrive generator?
That was my first draft, but I was too lazy to actually look it up.
But seeing him in Episode III — Anakin, you can fix almost anything, but can you fix a broken heart?
Wow, Kit Fisto is a yummy piece of Mandingo, lemme tell ya.
Oh my! I didn’t know they made a droideka in that size. It’s perfect for my robot collection.

That’s what she said.
Do you know “Darths & Droids?” Phantom Menaced reimagined as a D&D campaign.
Sadly, it seems to make much more sense that way.
