   This election has been the first time I have been excited about another countries government, I stayed up allnight watching the election coverage on the BBC and then went to bed with a smile on my face.

   When I woke up the next day, the very first thing that went through my head was, “Did last night really happen? Was Obama really elected President? Was I dreaming?”

   I was certain it had happened but.. I immediately got up, went to the computer and loaded MSNBC. I relaxed and smiled when I was able to read that he was (still) pres-elect.

   I am absolutely chuffed, as our Brit friends say, to see President-elect Obama wearing a White Sox hat. Just like me!

         If he doesn’t throw out the opener here in DC, I’ll be disappointed. It would be nice to go to opening day and not have to boo.

           It could be worse, your team could be handing out another 100 million this offseason, only to miss the playoffs by a game, again. The Mets just keep on hurting me and I come back for more every year…

   The debates unnerved both candidates. When he was preparing for them during the Democratic primaries, Obama was recorded saying, “I don’t consider this to be a good format for me, which makes me more cautious. I often find myself trapped by the questions and thinking to myself, ‘You know, this is a stupid question, but let me … answer it.’ So when Brian Williams is asking me about what’s a personal thing that you’ve done [that’s green], and I say, you know, ‘Well, I planted a bunch of trees.’ And he says, ‘I’m talking about personal.’ What I’m thinking in my head is, ‘Well, the truth is, Brian, we can’t solve global warming because I fucking changed light bulbs in my house. It’s because of something collective’.”

     The next president swears, gets it, and gets when he doesn’t get it. He looks like people I know. He thinks deeply and betrays just the slightest hint that he put effort into it, thereby showing how much it really took. It also turns out he’s a Trekkie.

     I’ve never been so happy to be an American. We went from -40 to a spring day in one day.
