Mantis update
The two dozen or so mantises that we kept from the last batch have, er, “sorted things out” between them and we are now left with three robust, healthy specimens: Ceiling, so-called because of his habit for living on the ceiling of his container, Booie, named after a friend’s dog, and Snacks, who, well, I don’t know where his name came from. The one pictured above is Ceiling. Each has had his or her first “skin shedding” and is turning from brown to green. As you can see, they are still less than an inch long after a couple of weeks of devouring fruit flies as quickly as they can catch them.
Todd, just what part of the body is the mantis resting on in the picture on the right? Why is there some kind of indentation on it? Why am I so much more fascinated by the body part than the mantis? My son got some crickets for a birthday gift several yars ago, and we released them into the wilds of St. Johns Place in Brooklyn after the novelty of their chirping wore off after two whole days… Ah,memories… LT. That is the index knuckle of my left hand. Ceiling is, clearly, moving into attack position.
There is no reason why these mantis posts are so thrilling, but they are! lol
