And let me just say, the American Haunting that flashes a ghostly image and plays scary sounds when you roll over it — as you’re two thirds asleep — is not fair.

    • Todd says:

Wow! Who got you the Honda box for Christmas?

      • greyaenigma says:

No one, curse their black hearts. I didn’t even realize Matango was by Honda until I looked it up last night. I just remember it when I watched it as a kid in a monster double feature. (As “Attack of the Mushroom People”.)

      • greyaenigma says:

No, I absolutely love that movie.

My joke is a reference to the original fisher king story. (The Fisher King also appears in Matt Wagner’s Mage, et al.)

          • greyaenigma says:

Whoa. I don’t know if that’s a good fit, but then again, as they say in Pi, maybe it’s genius!

            • Todd says:

Many years ago, I walked into a room on the Warner Bros. lot to meet with the head of the studio. He was in a bit of a tizzy because he had just gotten off the phone with a potential director for the first Harry Potter movie, and it had unnerved him. He said the director was a brilliant guy but whew! what a difficult director! I asked him who and he sighed and said “Terry Gilliam.”

              • greyaenigma says:

It’s heartening to hear that at least one studio head thought of him as brilliant.

It does lead one to wonder how difficult the world would be if he’d signed on to the first movie.

              • robolizard says:

And then he got the job…right!?

Frankly I feel that thew first two HPs have been very boring faliures, like watching a director who just doesn’t care, or doesn’t feel the core of the book. Harry Potter as a book can be seen as a benign Brazil… and the Half Blood Prince is a perfect match… but his name was quickly taken off Imdb actually… sooo… aheh… aheh… aHEH

Out of curiousity, what were you at WB for?

                • Todd says:

A unique and unrepeated incidence of a studio head actually flying me across the country to tell me how much he liked my script.

The script, needless to say, remains unshot.

                    OOH! WHATWAZZIT!?

                    • I too am urged to inquire upon that very matter…

                    • Todd says:

It was, of all things, a zombie movie. This is back in ’97, before the current wave of zombie movies. My zombie movie was a combination horror/action thing, kind of like The Road Warrior with zombies, and with a gang of mismatched teenagers instead of Mel Gibson.

                    • robolizard says:

Zombies and teenagers… finally together! Sounds pretty kickface… what if… it was… teenagers… AND A PACK OF FRANKENSTEINS! And more Frankensteins are made out of the dead teenagers…oooh…

…Lady and the Tramp… BUT WITH ZOMBIES!

    • popebuck1 says:

      Did you like Brazil?
Nah, my attention kept drifting away.

Ooh! Someone do one about ‘Adaptation’!

    • popebuck1 says:

So, what did you think of Adaptation?

(I’m sitting here trying to think of a good joke for “Adaptation” and I just can’t think of anything. I’ll go get a cup of coffee, maybe that will help. No, now I just want a donut, too. I shouldn’t have one because I’m getting fat already. Hmm, maybe my brother back in Indiana will have some idea of a funny, pithy line about “Adaptation.” I’ll call him.)

  9. popebuck1 says:

So, what did you think of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?
Ugh! I’m doing my best to forget about it completely!
