Holy week expands to embrace alternative religions

Dinosaur comic makes me laugh! I enjoy laughing, it’s better than sadness!.

Meanwhile, what could be funnier than Dinosaur Comics? Nothing I can think of! Unless maybe it’s panels from Dinosaur Comics presented in a constantly-changing random order!

    XKCD!

    Also poignant.

XKCD is very fine, but there’s something about the same five panels of dinosaurs, which the cartoonist didn’t even draw, being used over and over again every day that gives Dinosaur Comics its dadaist edge. I don’t know what it is about those five panels, I don’t know why it works, but it does.

There’s a whole genre of webcomics that do this sort of thing. Too lazy/stress/busy to look them up right now.

        • Todd says:

Yeah, but there’s something about the stupid/smart ratio of Dinosaur Comics that sets it apart. Just when I think “Well, this is just some loser jerking me around,” he’ll do something like quote Emily Dickinson or make some profound philosophical point and I’ll have to rethink the whole thing.

I get that. It’s especially unfair when they’re a both talented artist and a writer. That format is like the Unknown Comic — you have to assume they suck, but just maybe there’s someone brilliant beneath that bag.

Wait — that second link also has a link to Dada Pokey! Joy!
