Good Riddance

Aborted, 83 years too late.

This is the kind of man who makes me ashamed of being born in Illinois. During the Clinton impeachment his smug, overweening hypocrisy made me sick to my stomach on a daily basis.

The world is now a slightly better place.

NPR was putting me on edge this morning on reporting his death. Every time they did, they’d play a long clip of him announcing the Clinton impeachment.

It may have been his proudest moment, but I didn’t feel like reliving one of our most unpleasant displays of partisanship in recent memory.

  2. Yeah, I felt a cause for celebration was in the air when I saw that.

I live in IL… but only physically.

Even Democrats were quick to praise Hyde as word of his death spread.

”Henry Hyde was a credit to public service and to the House of Representatives,” said Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, chairman of the Judiciary Committee. ”He practiced the old-school values like civility, which help make the legislative process work. And he knew how to defuse a difficult situation with humor.”

Hyde was a throwback to a different era, genuinely liked by his opponents for his wit, charm and fairness.

Not being American I dont know this man, but if you’ll forgive me, its seems rather harsh to wish someone dead.

The Clinton impeachment was pretty disgusting, but ……

I’m not wishing he were dead, I’m glad he’s dead.

His behavior during the Clinton impeachment was disgraceful, nearly as disgraceful as that of Ken Starr, the McCarthy of his day.

I suppose I underestimate at my peril the scars that US politics leaves on its citizens. A quick cast of the mind back over 50 years shows policial assassinations, (potenially) multiple fixed elections, impeachment for abuse of powers, convert funding of wars and terrorists, and curtailling of personal liberties.

It must really hurt if you care.
