Programming note
Due to the recent disturbing news regarding Livejournal, I’m going to start cross-posting my posts at another blog I’ve created at Blogspot.
I will also start moving the more "important" pieces I’ve done over there — just in case I need to make a speedy exit from Livejournal one day.
I wouldn’t worry TOO much about hurrying to get it done. I know some of the people that worked at 6a and LJ was practically run by two guys in their off time for a while.
The tech behind it is really really simple, and they weren’t working on anything new so basic maintenance is the only concern and they have more than enough people for that.
That said its always good to have a backup space for your info.
I’ve added the new blog to my Google Reader; I really hope that LJ doesn’t go belly-up because I don’t want to have to fool with backing it up…
I’ve been considering making a similar move myself, albeit to my own website. I sure hope LJ doesn’t go away, though. It’s quite convenient having one place where I can keep track of my friends and industry professionals such as yourself and Urbaniak.
Don’t you have all your entries backed up on dvd-r somewhere? With all the work you’ve put into the site, I’d assume so.
Ummmm, yes, I do have all my entries backed up, of course I do, what kind of a 20th-century troglodyte do you take me for? The idea!
09? You had to be 09?
Somehow, toddalcott and toddalcott1 were already taken. Probably by me, but I couldn’t figure out how to access them.
I really hate when that happens. Pretty annoying to steal a name out from under yourself.
I take it you tried requesting the password for them?
Let’s hope there’s nothing to worry about…but I’ve already bookmarked you at Blogspot, just in case…
Have you thought of buying some hosting and set up a wordpress blog? You could definitely start monetizing that way, and you’ll be able to have more control over how your blog looks.
I don’t know all that much about it. I’ll look into it.
Here are a couple of links to save you some time. Here is lifehacker’s list of most reliable and affordable webhosts (I use Dreamhost myself)

and here is a list of 10 things you can do with your own server.

Hope that helps!
Maybe I’m a just starry eyed optimist, but I really think people are making a bigger deal about this than they need to. I firmly believe that LJ isn’t a sinking ship or anything. I mean, it’s the most well known name in blogging (other than blogspot).
