Earthquake damage — exclusive photos!
As reported earlier, the individual hardest hit by the 5.4 quake‘s ferocity was this 12″ Hawkgirl figurine. The plastic figurine plunged over 15″ off the top of my computer monitor to land in this supine position on some papers. Top-heavy due to her large, unposable wings, she has always been a special risk in times of earthquakes. She is expected to be put back on top of the monitor later today.
Hawkgirl’s longtime companions atop the monitor, 7″ Wonder Woman and 6″ Trinity, were unharmed.
In Sam’s room, the body of a Sandtrooper lies face down on the floor, while a Darth Sidious Pez dispenser collapses nearby. Only the providence of springy, wall-to-wall carpeting saved these 4.5″ toys from possible scuff marks.
The mantises were unharmed.
Who would let their child take Pez from the throat of Darth Sidious? It always starts with Pez. Then there’s a sandpeople slaughter and soon the galaxy is doomed. What kind of parent are you?!!
I’m glad the mahyem at the Alcott household was kept to a minimum. I am actually on my way to LA in an hour and I’m a little miffed the earthquake could not have held off until my arrival. It’s been a few years since I’ve been in a mildly terrifying temblor. Good for the circulation.
I’m jealous of your 12″ Hawkgirl. I have a 4″ one that never stays upright.
I love Hawkgirl in the Justice League cartoon. She’s one of the few female heroes who doesn’t sport impossible spike heels and gravity-defying bosom. Plus she prefers to beat the villain senseless first and ask questions later.
From where I’m sitting, they seem to be defying gravity!!!
That’s her corset. The underwire is made of nth metal.
Nth Metal! Why does she need wings then if her corset can make them fly?
Glad to hear that yours and the mantids are all doing fine after the hippy hippy shake!
See, that’s why Wonder Woman is Wonder Woman. A mere earthquake can not move her.
Perhaps Hawkgirl was just trying to fly to higher ground?
I’m glad the mantises are OK, though I do kind of wonder what they made of the earthquake experience. I’m guessing there thoughts were something along the lines of “?”
I’m from New York, but I’m in LA and was in a car on the way to Griffith Park when the earthquake hit, and none of us noticed a thing. We came back to our friend’s place to find two of his LEGO figures fallen over as the only evidence of the earthquake.
I’m sorta disappointed I was oblivious to the whole thing.
It’s always the toys who suffer most.
glad you’re okay
Hi, Todd, this is Mary, your sort of long-lost cousin (your Aunt Ann’s 1960 kid; I’ve met your sister and brothers). We just sold our VCR at a yard sale, and I was wondering if James Urbaniak or any other Hal Hartley person you know might want our VCR tapes of The Unbelievable Truth, Trust, and Simple Men.
I’m at pettice@lvc.edu.
Nice to make your acquaintance, Todd!
Mary
Re: glad you’re okay
Mary!
Good to hear from you. My collection of Hal Hartley movies on VHS is already well-stocked, but if you have any old Journey albums on 8-track I’d be interested.
Re: glad you’re okay
Oh, I have such a hard time throwing things away; I just thought somewhere, someone cared.
Journey? Um, no.
OMG this is the funniest entry of all time! I love it!!
